Take a Christmas break.


This has been causing quite a stir on social media so I thought I give my opinion...Welcome to nothing - the latest 'TV Spot' for KitKat. 

Have you seen...I mean heard it? It features nothing but a grey screen and a voice-over. They've made a radio ad yet paid for TV media space. 

But has it paid off because of the coverage on the internet? Well, unless you work in advertising it seems stuff like this passes you by online. I asked a handful of my non-advertising family members and friends if they'd seen it yet. The answer was no. 

However, my Mum thought she'd seen it the previous night on the telly, it was stand out enough for her to look up from her iPad, but when quizzed she couldn't remember the brand or what the message was.

It's brave of them not to stick a logo at the end. I suppose the whole idea is taking a break from Christmas ads, so blatantly advertising KitKat would defeat the point. But, considering the majority fast-forward through ad breaks these days, means they're missing out on getting at least a glimpse of the brand name out there. 

With that said it's a refreshing concept. It has to paint a picture using just words and the copy is strong enough to do so, all in keeping with KitKat's sarcastic tone of voice.
It's a welcome relief from the already tiresome Christmas ads (that is until I see it a thousand times). 

It's got people talking because it's something a bit different. They managed to stand out while taking the piss at the busiest time of year.
