Probably my favourite type of advertising!
It doesn't clog up ad breaks with irritating shit you'd never dream of buying. Instead, they create something you can talk about with your friends and colleagues.
You'll normally stumble across the Topical Ad soon after a newsworthy event, or at a certain time of year. By associating a brand with something that the public is actively talking about, it will put that brand front of mind. It also shows that brands can have a sense of humour, making them appear more human and less corporate.
Below you'll find a selection of Topical Ads. Enjoy.
Maggie, you either love her or hate her
An EasyJet ad the day after England fucked up in the 2012 Euro's
Valentines Day is a hotspot for Topical Ads
When Price Harry was photographed naked with some chicks in Vegas
Give it a break World Cup fans
Black Friday is another big target for Topical Ads
A digital billboard that mirrored the recent partial eclipse over Europe
The eclipse made a good talking point
When Tesco's horse meat scandal came to light, a lot of brands jumped on board to take the piss
Cheap skate MPs claiming back as little as 3p to drive around the corner
Specsavers the day after a Korean flag mix up
April Fools day brings out the best - Savanna Dry is a South African cider
Another prank
It's funny how many people take it seriously when it's printed in a newspaper
Reverse Guinness
Apparently, this is normal in Sweden.
Here's one I genuinely fell for. Can you blame me? With a hipster culture engulfing Britain at the moment, it is pretty believable. Well played ASOS.
