I’ll drink to that.


When working for a multi-billion dollar tech company, you get to express your creativity in ways that aren’t necessarily always work-related. Let me explain. You’ve heard of Friday night drinks in the office? Of course, you have! It’s a pretty standard perk in the creative industry. But Canva takes things even further. 

With PYO (pour your own) beer taps in our office (I know, I know, we’re fancy like that), we saw an opportunity to create our very own beer brand that we could keg and serve up on Fridays. One meeting later, everything was in motion. Dan from the vibe team secured a professional home brewing setup just around the corner from the office.

In the meantime, we got to work on the branding and promotional materials to get people excited. We settled on the name ‘Canva Brewing Co’, which we could shorten to ‘CB’ in homage to VB - the well-known Aussie beer. It also opened up an opportunity to parody the VB ad formula, which is super famous and instantly recognisable if you’ve ever lived down under.

Dan managed to brew a 6% lager and an even stronger pale ale. We made the lager our flagship brew, again playing into the VB spoof angle. 

We produced the advert entirely in-house and aired it at the cinema in front of the whole company during one of our Season Openers (our version of a company-wide quarterly meeting). We ended up serving the beer at the after-party. The ad and beer went down a treat. Check it out here…
